A view point / Emma Sham-Ba

I arrived to Alaska in the summer.
I wanted to see stars from a new view point
I hoped to see the Northern Lights
But the sun is not getting high in the sky
in Alaska during summer time
It shines diagonally and crosses the sky adjacent to the horizon
And setting diagonally adjacent to the horizon
And without allowing real darkness to appear.

The days were warm and long and the nights were cold and short.
And the sun was the most interesting star.
I had found a number of galaxies inside a swallowing purple flower and went back to looking at the sun.

I sat for days in front of the sea
And sometimes I took a few steps into it.
The sun, too, marched into the sea with stripes of light.

Soft glittering creatures were hidden between the rocks.
On the other side of the sea there was a volcano
The rocks glowed in cold greenery
And sometimes in black
But the sky never blackened.

I imagined a totem pole:
Human face, Bird face, Sun face
I turned my face to the sun and said:
"My heart grew hot within me".

The Sun turned its face toward me and said:

"Me too, my heart grew hot within me".
